Netflix, which began producing original films in 2015, can now safely say that it is responsible for some of the main productions each year in genres such as romantic comedy, science fiction and, of course, action. The streaming platform has stood out with increasingly larger productions and striking casts, with plots of shots, blows and explosions, of course. Sweet Girl

‘Sweet Girl' is an action movie exclusive to Netflix, starring Jason Momoa, which confirms something that has been clear for some time: that the actor is the ideal face for a certain style of characters. And it's not that that disqualifies his abilities as an actor, but it is undeniable that he fits very well within certain molds, repeated in ‘Aquaman', ‘Game of Thrones', ‘Frontier' and in this film. The actor is robust and serious, ideal for “macho” type characters, but also with a mysterious air and few friends, the subject he intimidates and who it is better not to provoke. Thus, he is the perfect protagonist for ‘Sweet Girl', a devastated father with a huge thirst for revenge, with a strong protective instinct and willing to do anything for his daughter. As a counterpoint to Momoa we have Isabela Merced, best known for ‘Dora and the Lost City'. The family chemistry between the two convinces, establishing a solid foundation for the premise of a father who, motivated by the loss of his wife and his desire to protect his daughter, will spare no effort to eliminate his enemies in a film full of action, with the right doses of suspense and drama. If you like action movies but within the margins of what is believable, this movie is the option, as it has the perfect measures of seriousness and violence.

Below Zero

From director Lluís Quílez (awarded at the Sitges Festival and nominated for the Goya Award for the short film ‘Graffiti'), ‘Bajocero' is an action thriller that, due to its plot, is reminiscent of the acclaimed ‘Celda 211'. It is a tense and claustrophobic film of the style that is already so dominated in the country of ‘La casa de papel', supported by a powerful leading performance by Javier Gutiérrez (winner of the Goya for ‘El autor'), in the role of a police officer faced with impossible odds.

Red Notice

Directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber (of films like ‘Skyscraper'), ‘Red Notice' is the typical robbery story that mixes action, adventure and a touch of comedy. With Dwayne Johnson (‘Jungle Cruise'), Ryan Reynolds (‘Free Guy') and Gal Gadot (‘Wonder Woman') leading the cast, the production tells the story of Nolan Booth (Reynolds), a drug thief. art that steals a historic “Cleopatra egg.” However, he is arrested by Interpol agent John Hartley (Johnson). And now, everything okay? Not at all. Then it turns out that both agent and thief are ambushed by a mysterious villain, marking the beginning of a journey in which the two go after Cleopatra's other eggs (a set of relics) to show Interpol that they are not guilty of theft.

The old guard

Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, from Image Comics, ‘The Old Guard' is another entry into the already saturated superhero movie market, although it has one element in its favor : Immortality, often idealized and even satirized to death (as in ‘Deadpool') is presented here as a mystery with existential implications. Therefore, the film has a darker and MORE solemn tone than its Marvel Studios counterparts, something more similar to Zack Snyder's VISION, although with fewer fantasy elements. Under the direction of Gina Prince-Bythewood (‘Love & Basketball', ‘Taste of Honey'), ‘The Old Guard' boasts impressive combat choreography, a protagonist who knows how to do her thing in Charlize Theron (‘Atomic', ‘Mad Max: Fury Road') and a charismatic newcomer in KiKi Layne (‘If the Colony Could Talk'). Although forgettable in almost everything else, it is a well-directed and entertaining action film.
