Bill Gates was born on 28 October 1955 in Seattle, Washington, USA. His father's name was William Henry Gates Sr. who was a lawyer. And his mother's name was Mary Maxwell Gates who played the role of board of directors in organizations like First Interstate Bank System and United Way of America.

It is said that when Bill Gates was seven years old, the house where he lived with his family in the Sand Point area of ​​Seattle was damaged by a tornado.

Although early in life, Gates felt that his parents wanted him to pursue a career in law, because his father was a lawyer himself. It is also said that Gates' physical development was not as per his AGE, due to which his classmates and friends used to tease him about this.

It is said that the feet of a child can be seen in the cradle itself, Bill Gates also had an inclination towards technology and computers since childhood. So when he enrolled at Lakeside Prep, a private school, at the age of 13, he wrote his first software program.

And it is also said about him that while studying in the same school, when he was studying in the eighth class, he bought a Teletype Model 33 ASR terminal and a General Electric with the money he earned by selling his previous class's copy books. Had to buy blocks in (GE) computers.

He wrote his first program Tic Tac Toe in this machine which provided users the facility to play games on the computer. At that time, Bill Gates considered it a miracle that how machines execute software code completely and produce perfect results. This is the reason why his curiosity and interest towards it kept increasing.

Gates and his fellow students had asked the school administration for time to work on a DEC PDP minicomputer. One of these systems was named PDP-10, in which Gates and several of his friends, Paul Allen, Rick Weiland, and Kent Evans, were caught exploiting a bug in the operation system, after which these people were hired for the summer to work on this system. Was banned.

Lakeside Programs Club formed to earn money

After that these four students formed a club called Lakeside Programs to earn money. When the ban on him to work in that system was lifted, he started offering to find bugs in the software of Computer Center Corporation (CCC). To do this, Gates, instead of using the teletype, went to the office of this company and studied the source code of many programs running on the system using Fortran, Lisp and machine language.

And this type of work continued with Computer Center Corporation until the company folded its business in 1970.

The following year, a Lakeside teacher hired Gates and Evans to automate his school's class scheduling system, offering them time and royalties for the computer in exchange. Both of them worked day and night to complete this program, but unfortunately Gates' classmate Evans died in a mountaineering accident.

Although this grief was unbearable for Gates, he also had to complete this program, for this he again started working on completing this program with his classmate Alan.

Bill Gates was a top student

Although people often say about Bill Gates that he is a college dropout. Therefore, people's perception of them is that they are less educated. Whereas the truth is that Gates was very smart in studies since childhood, and that is why when he graduated from Lakeside School in 1973, he was a National Merit Scholar. It is said that in a test, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), he had scored 1590 marks out of total 1600 marks.

At the age of just 17, he set up his own venture called Traffic-O-Data with his partner Allen to manufacture traffic counters based on the Intel 8008 processor. After that, he took admission in Harvard University in 1973, and left his studies midway after two years.

Gates had also prepared an algorithm at Harvard College, after which he remained in constant touch with Paul Allen. In 1975, when the MITS Altair 8800 was released based on the Intel 8080 CPU, the two young men decided to start their own software company.

And this was the reason why he had to leave Harvard studies midway, and when he talked to his parents about starting his own company, they also fully supported him.

However, today when Bill Gates is asked about his decision, he says that he did not completely leave Harvard studies at that time, rather he believes that he had taken leave from there. And he also said that if things did not work out as per his expectations at that time, he could have joined his studies again.

Microsoft’s enterprise 

It is said that Gates had read an article in Popular Electronics published in January 1975 which described the Altair 8800. He then contacted its company Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) and informed them that he and his friends were working on creating a basic interpreter for that platform. But the reality was that they were not doing any work on it, but they wanted to know the interest of MITS on it.

But fortunately, MITS President Ed Roberts agreed to meet with them, and within a few weeks they had developed an Altair emulator that ran on the minicomputer. And the good thing was that this emulator he developed was demonstrated at the MITS office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and he liked it, and then Alan had a deal with MITS to distribute Altair BASIC. The deal was done.

Bill Gates left Harvard studies in 1975 to work on this project, after which Gates and Allen registered their company in the name of Microsoft on November 26, 1976. He hired his high school classmate Rick Weiland as his company's first employee.

After that he never looked back in his business and this was the reason why Bill Gates, who had taken leave from Harvard, never went back to join college.

Partnership with IBM

At that time IBM was the market leader in the field of computer equipment. In 1980, IBM approached Microsoft for software for its upcoming personal computer. But it is said that when IBM approached Microsoft about an operating system for their computers, Gates advised them to contact Digital Research, the manufacturer of the CP/M operating system running at that time.

But IBM's digital research did not work out. IBM representative Jack Sams then met with Gates to see if his company could develop an operating system for him. A few weeks later, Allen and Gates suggested IBM use x86 DOS, which had been developed by Tim Patterson of Seattle Computer Products for similar hardware used in computers.

At this time Microsoft was presenting itself as an agent of 86 DOS. But later when Microsoft appointed Tim Patterson as its employee, he became its owner. And then he provided PC DOS to IBM for a $50,000 one-time fee.

Although there is no doubt that Microsoft did not collect any huge fee from IBM in this agreement, but now Microsoft's operating system was going to be used in the computers of the market leader in computer equipment at that time, this is what made Microsoft a big software company. Was going to be converted into a company.

After that Microsoft created MS DOS which was sold not only to IBM but also to other customers. When Microsoft was reorganized in 1981, Bill Gates was made the president of the company and Paul Allen was made the vice president. But later Paul Allen was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, a disease which was treated in the year 1983, the same year Paul Allen left the Microsoft company. After that, the business partnership of Gates and Allen was formally ended.

Origin of Microsoft Windows

Microsoft launched its first retail operating system named Microsoft Windows on November 20, 1985. It was designed in such a way that anyone could use it easily, which is why this operating system took over the users in a very short time. As long as Gates remained CEO of Microsoft, the Windows operating system was based on DOS.

But a year after Gates left the CEO post, the company developed Windows XP, an operating system that was not based on DOS. Currently the tenth version of Windows is running Windows 10.
